During this week, I continued for generating the ideas from my primary and secondary research to associate to my final project. So, I found different interesting ideas that contained the concept about sustainability and the balanced between urban and nature style.
Inspiration
figure.1 France's pavilion for Milan Expo 2015, XTU Architects. figure.2 The Infinity Tree, Tobias Power. figure.3 Street Tree Pods, Matthew Chamberlain.
These design expressed the elements that relevant to nature and sustainability. About the France's pavilion, the pavilion timber to dominate the location of the event, the used of colour match with the environment around the Expo that created a harmonious space to fit in to the topic of expo called "Feeding the Planet. Energy for life.". the designer layout the area which offer a retail market for selling some organic food.(fig.1)
The Infinity tree show the idea about sustainable progress to symbolize to the imagination of architectural design from the future. the structure deliberated created a couples of empty space for combine with light reflection that penetrate from the empty space and structure the tone with vibrant sepia. Also, the idea involve interior design on the pavilion(fig.2).
As for the design, several of tree surround the street to institute a private space for create a series of structure. tree pods houses corresponding by wooden bridges layout a complicated pattern. The designer try to institute a natural environment into the urbanized area to show the balance between these two different systems(fig.3).
Designer's Description
XTU Architect:
figure.4 XTU architect, Anouk, L. and Nicolas, D. figure.5 French's povillion
XTU Architect was found in 2000 which located in Pairs, among Anouk, L. and Nicolas, D. are the principal architects. The characteristic of XTU Architect express the concept that combine academic and environmental research with residential and cultural architecture.
Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazieres are Multiple winners of European in biennial competition for young architects. As for the designers’ work, they created a curved space with cross-crossing timber, and they adopt some climbing plants to decorate the area on the top of the spaces to respond the theme” Feeding the Planet. Energy for life”. The used of design demonstrate a natural style of design, the façade of the building is also present the modernist style with using curved design.
As for the line of the formal elements, designers used a couple of curves to instituted wavy space of celling of the building, many cross-crossing lines corresponded to become a flexible structure in the interior space. However, the façade of the pavilion instituted a very logical area which contrasting the celling to separate two different space and prominent subtle movement.
Besides, the whole structure used geometric shape to develop irregular pattern. There are plenty of separate vertical rectangular shape side by side. The designer layout with different height of rectangular fragment to created a wavy pattern that combine with hemisphere of negative space to present it organic and modern. Also, there are several diamond lattices cover the entire area of the pavilion to structure a complicated design.
In my opinion, the used of design was attracted me since it was created a wavy celling with many timbers and contrasting the rectangular shape of the façade of whole structure. I am very interesting to engaged a pavilion with natural elements so this design that it used timber and climbing plants to create a natural curved pavilion.
Joseph Valenti:

Joseph Valenti is a architect who found the Albizia Project. He is also a director of the Hawaii Utilization Team. This team award the 2018 USDA Wood Innovations grant and lead three major projects, they express the innovative wood design to expand the marketing of wood product in Hawaii. He was graduated from University of Hawaii at Manoa. He presents different wooden design in his style that using low-value timber explore many possibilities of new ideas of wooden architecture.
The form of design, the whole structure used wood to develop a prefabricated and low-cost housing unit. Joseph prefers different sizes of timber to create a couple of gradations. There are the combination of long and short rectangular timber to form different gradation on the facade of this design.
The use of colour is warm and neutral that created a subtle vibe to prominent the natural elements on his design, all the rectangular used saturated yellow to be the main tone, the design created a naturistic yellow contrasting the creamy white to structure two different layers that reconcile to prominent the natural elements.
However, the combination between curved thick lines and straight lines to develop a couples of gradations. The vertical curve line corresponded to horizontal lines that instituted another layers to decorate the facade of the architecture. The vertical curves contrasting horizontal straight lines which demonstrate different ideas of using lines.
For me, I like the structure in this design because it was collaborated curves and straight lines to create a harmonious space with timber. Also, the wood louvers inspire me that affected the light reflection to design a subtle movement. He expand different wooden design which influence me to investigate with timber to create more harmonious pavilion.
Mind map (Client)

The mind map show the information about Nottingham Contemporary, it inspired me that generated the idea of creating a pavilion which combined a gallery and setting area for university students to have a break and recognize more about history and concept of different artwork in Nottingham. Thus, My target audience is all the university students in Nottingham since most of university students have a lot of pressures and project need to engaged, I want to create a area to let them feeling more about the environment in Nottingham.
